Signature cool and exceptional Cripple Creek events take place in this historical mining town throughout the year. It’s located about an hour from Colorado Springs or Canon City and only 90 minutes from Pueblo. In the 1980s, Cripple Creek was on the verge of becoming another Colorado ghost town. But the voters of Colorado allowed Cripple Creek to establish legalized gambling in 1991 and the town bounced back to become a jewel of Colorado. Nowadays, people visit Cripple Creek for more than just gambling. Surrounding stunning fall colors is one of the Cripple Creek events everyone should see at least once. In the summer time the temperatures are pleasant, and the air is clean. Cripple Creek events in the summer include Donkey Derby Days. This event was inspired by the local donkey herd said to be distant relatives of the donkeys who worked here during Cripple Creek’s gold rush days. Donkey Derby Days isn’t just about racing donkeys down main street. There’s also live music, vendors, shootouts and a beer garden.
One of the most popular Pikes Peak area and Cripple Creek events in the winter is the annual Ice festival in February. Sculptors carve chunks of ice into amazing works of art. The ice sculpture reside along main street for a couple weeks and usually follow a theme. The Ice Festival in Cripple Creek is one of the top Colorado winter events and festivals.
Cripple Creek events can also be found on the Pikes Peak Area Events calendar.
