Mesa Verde Country Events occur in the southwest corner of Colorado and include Mesa Verde National Park, Mancos, Cortez, Dolores, Montezuma and Ute Mountain Casino in Towaoc. The crown of the area is Mesa Verde National Park. It has been named the “Number One Historic Monument in the World” by Conde Nast Traveler and one of the “50 places of a Lifetime – the World’s Greatest Destinations” by National Geographic.
Mesa Verde National Park is one of the nation’s first World Heritage sites and the largest archaeological preserve in the country. The Native American heritage of the area and is celebrated daily with free native American Dances at the Cortez Cultural Center. And of course, the archeology is also reflected in many of the festivals.

The Town of Mancos is an historic community. The town retains its pride in history with several buildings on the State and National Historic Registers while the downtown business district offers visitors art galleries, top notch dining options, a brewery, a cidery, coffee houses and one of the oldest continuously operating bars in Colorado.
The ancestral Puebloans were the original inhabitants of the area, living here until about A.D 1300. Historians are still trying to determine why they left the area, leaving behind a wealth of artifacts and remnants of their villages and kivas. The next to arrive were the Ute Indians whose migration routes took them through the Dolores River Valley and north, south east and west into northern Colorado, Utah, Arizona and New Mexico. Some of their descendants now live on the Ute Mountain Ute and Southern Ute reservations in Southwest Colorado
Ute Mountain Casino
The Ute Mountain Casino, RV Park and Travel Center are located 11 mile shouth of Cortez. It is the first tribal gaming facility & the largest casino in the Four Corners.
Cortez anchors the four corners area sitting along the Trail of the Ancients Scenic and Historic Byway. It also sits right in between the Canyons of the Ancients and Mesa Verde National Park.
