Salida Art Walk
Salida events take place between the Collegiate peaks and the Arkansas River. Most people visit Salida in the winter ski at the very family friendly Monarch ski resort. In the summer, Salida is home to the most rafted river in America appropriately dubbed “The Rubber Highway”. Salida events take place around the river and in downtown Salida all summer. In the winter Monarch ski resort is home to winter fun and great winter activities and events.
The most popular of Salida events in the summer is FIBark, America’s oldest whitewater festival that dates to 1949. Events include the downriver race, the hooligan race, freestyle kayak, Raft rodeo, Pine Creek race, slalom race, stand up paddleboard and crazy river dog. There are also events for the landlubber like a parade, mountain bike races, running races and concerts. FIBark (First in Boating on the Arkansas) takes place in June when the spring snow runoff is at its highest.
The zaniest of Salida events takes place on closing day at Monarch is Kayaks on the snow, Large amounts of snow are shaped into a special designed downhill course with berms, banks, bumps and ends in an icy pond.
In the summer, Salida events include the free concerts at Riverside Park a few blocks from downtown. Also, in the summer you’ll want to make time to visit Captain Zipline and the Lost Canyon Zipline Tour. This is one of Colorado’s first and finest zipline tours guaranteed fun for the whole family.
